I imagined that I stepped into a modern apartment. There are not many things inside, just a bed in the bedroom, a couch in the living room, and some basic things needed for daily life in the kitchen and bathroom. It may seem that the owner of this apartment live a really simple life, and it may seem that the owner does not own much at all. But our life today is so different from that of the past, what one person owns may not be seen with eyes. I suppose that the owner of that imagined apartment in my brain is a super talented person like Steve Jobs, and s/he is passionate about a simplistic life of materials. But s/he has a lot of invisible assets besides what are shown to us because s/he is living a digital life more than a material life. S/he has accounts in the social media websites and has extremely high popularity in those online communities, and owns a huge network whose value can not be simply estimated. No matter where s/he goes around the globe, s/he has local friends and business partners to take care of her/him. S/he is indeed a rich person who owns a lot more than the eyes can see, her/his assets are beyond the visible.
Since the human civilization has stepped on this digitalized road with media, it is hard (probably impossible) to turn back. I guess many people now own some invisible assets and they value them a lot as they can bring them opportunities and a sense of belonging into their preferred groups of people. Media has created many new ways of life and new ways of accumulating property for the people. I wonder how can these invisible assets be scaled, and how much will people be motivated to participate in them after seeing the scaled values of them so as to increase the value of their own assets. And I wonder how far can we go on this road, and what is the next road that diverge from this one and when will that happen. but one thing is for sure, what is emerging now will be outdated someday, and new things will keep emerging and revolutionize the human life.
